Overview
In this article, we’ll walk you through the basics of getting your Stripe terminal up & running. A great resource to have on hand is the Verifone P400 setup directly from Stripe’s website.
This article will walk you through how to set up your new device from scratch and include some best practices.
Start with plugging in and powering up your new Stripe Verifone P400 terminal.
You will need to either connect it to the internet by using Wifi or via an Ethernet cable. The terminal will automatically power up and begin to update if needed. Allow the terminal to complete updating.
Once you see what's called the splash screen, your terminal is ready to connect to your Stripe Account.
Now, log into your Stripe account and, from the sidebar menu on the left, select Readers
Now you need to set up at least one Location. Locations are useful if you have multiple different locations where your terminals will be used. If you prefer, you can just up one single location by clicking on +New in the top right-hand corner of your screen
Once you’ve set up your location, click on the Location name to add readers and take advantage of a few customization options.
For example, you can change the splash screen by clicking on Reader Settings in the top right-hand corner. It will ask for your password before being able to make any changes.
To add a new reader to this location, click on + New in the top right-hand corner of the Readers section.
You will then be prompted to enter a Registration code for the device & a Reader label (Optional).

Zaui uses the device serial number to differentiate between devices so the Reader label is an optional step that you can skip. |
To figure out the registration code for your terminal, hover over the “i” symbol and enter the sequence of numbers on your terminal by clicking on the keys. Click to save and you will see your new terminal in your list of readers.
Your terminal screen will then give you three randomly generated words to enter. Note it’s not the same three words every time, it will change every time you register the same or a new terminal.
You are now ready to use the terminal with Zaui Core! Check out this article on how to use your new terminal with your system.
Best Practices
- Connecting over Wifi is a beta feature. If you’ve connected your terminal via wifi, have an ethernet cable on hand to avoid any disruption to your business if the wifi connection isn’t stable.
- Leave your Stripe terminal connected to power at all times so it can update automatically as needed. If you unplug your terminal from the power source, it will turn off.
